December 14th

We've decided to start blogging our running adventures. We've been training for a month now, so I'll get us up to speed. We started with 2-4 mile runs. I was running before but only short distances and at turtle speed. Nick had an interest in running. I recall a text from Nick saying he'd just run one mile and was so out of shape and sore- we've come a long way. He's traded in his 5 year old running shoes for new ones and we are on a schedule that we stick to.. Kinda. We are now running 7 miles without dying and our longest run to date is 9.5 miles.
Our journey has not been without obstacle, as we've learned that a pre-run snack is always necessary and just coffee doesn't count; Nick prefers a protein bar and a cigarette and I prefer a smoothie. Without water I WILL drink from the nearest tree's irrigation line, and Nick may pee mid-run. I need my Chapstick like Nick needs his cough drops (preferably the square ones). I've learned that I have a great fear of getting run over, and I can't keep my phone in my sports bra to be soaked by sweat.
Today, was not short of excitement, as I nearly ran straight into a pole, and Nick learned how to properly stretch his calves and locked his keys in his car, again. Luckily, Hondas are easy to break into if you have scissors. Tell all your friends.

Nick got a case of plantar fasciitis after our trip to valley of fire in which in he just had to climb to the top of a mountain (our running course was no where to be found). It flared up again the night before but he was able to run without to much discomfort. Vanessa has been struggling with a bad knee and is blister prone on both feet. New preparations were instilled today to prevent any further damage, some sticky spray to which the name evades me at the moment and some nice puffy bandaids were applied and after our run her feet were in good shape except for one new blister as one of the bandaids fell off.

We'll run anywhere we can, but prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of traffic which isn't the easiest thing to find here in Vegas. We started out running together at lake mead, been to valley of fire, but mainly stick to areas of Henderson and summerlin. Here's our milage to date with a little less than a month left before our race.
